About Life Coaching
Life coaching is a specialised another form of coaching that is more aligned with life outside work. A programme of life coaching typically s designed to help improve the quality of an individual’s life by focusing on areas such work-life balance, personal fulfilment, health, fitness and personal finances.
Life coaching as a form of personal development is less rigorous from a developmental viewpoint than it’s counterparts of developmental coaching and executive coaching. This is because life coaching itself is grounded in the principles of common sense whereas much of the areas of developmental and executive coaching are grounded in the principles of psychology.
A life coaching session is conducted in a similar fashion to other types of coaching in that it is a one-to-one conversation that takes place at the life coach’s office or clinic. The period over which the programme is conducted is variable and is dependant on the needs of the client. Life coaching in itself offers little by way of behaviour change unless it’s support by another mode of coaching such as developmental coaching. Life coaching is very much about providing practical commonsense advice on matters such as work-life balance, personal finances and goal-setting. If behaviour change is your goal then a programme of NLP, or CBT will be more suited to your needs.
