Team Coaching
Team coaching is an activity that concentrates on improving team performance and effectiveness. The goal of this type of coaching is to ensure that the team works together effectively so that each individual in the team becomes more effective than they would be as an individual. In other words, the sum of the whole is greater that the sum of its parts.
How Is Coaching A Team Different To Coaching An Individual?
Team coaching focuses on the goals of the team rather than the goals of the individual. One of the key considerations for a coach to take into account is the aspect of team dynamics and the effects that this has on the achievement of the group’s goals. We have provided another section of the knowledgebase devoted to providing you with more information on team dynamics
The coach needs to also be aware of team’s current state of evolution. For instance, using Tuckman’s model of team development, are they forming, storming, norming or performing? The current stage of development will inform the coach in their choice of intervention to facilitate team development.
